Mecca Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India. It is very close to Charminar and Choodi Bazaaar. The mosque was built during the reign of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, 5th ruler of Qutb Shahi dynasty. The bricks of this mosque were made by the soil brought from Mecca (holiest Islamic site). Hence it is named as Mecca Masjid. The architecture consists of single slab granite columns and five arches each on three sides. Entry Timings are from: 8.00 am – 12.00 pm and 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm. It is open on all days.
Just opposite of the Mecca Masjid lies the Nizamia Unani Hospital:
The shopping lane near to Charminar is known as Laad Bazaar or Choodi Bazaar. This is a very old market dating back to the time of Nizams and Qutub Shahi Kings.
