Sambar (Rusa unicolor):
Nilgai (Blue Bull): Found from the foot hills of the Himalayas to the South India. Horse like built with high withers and low rump. The adult bull is with coarse iron green coat, a white ring below, each fetlock and two white spots and each cheek. Male 130 cms to 140 cms high. Female smaller in size. Young cows and bulls are tawny in color. Both sexes have dark manes and the males bears distinctive tuft of stiff black hairs on the rought. Avoid dense forest. Usual haunts are hills sparsely dotted with trees, or level or undulating plains covered with grass and patches of scrubs. They graze and browse feeds on the leaves and fruits. Nilgai lives without water for a long period. 4-10 is the number seen together in family groups. Gives birth to 1-2 calves.
