Lion Tailed Macaque (Macaca silenus): An endangered tree dwelling monkey inhabiting the evergreen forest of western ghats. The great mane of dark gray or brownish gray hair is distinctive. Lives in troops of 10-20, feed basically on tender leaves, flowers and fruits. Loss of evergreen forest to tea and other plantations besides poaching is leading to their highly endangered status.
Spotted deer or Cheetal (Axis axis): Spotted deers is the most beautiful of all the deers. They are found in herds and habitat the forested areas with good grazing grounds and plentiful water. The herd has 2 to 3 stags. They are more diurnal. During mating season the stag gives a loud, harsh bellow and combats between the males for possession of the hinds are frequent and fierce. They are prolific breeders. Usually gives birth to a single fawn.
