500 year old tree: This is a Syzygium Densiflorum tree. Our guide said that this tree is more than 500 years old.

If you walk further from the Dolphin’s Nose you will reach Echo Rock. You can hear an echo if you shout from the rock. The place was beautiful, a bit dangerous as it was not protected by railings and all. There is a deep fall from every side, so you need to be careful. Trip to Kodaikanal: Chapter 16: Dolphin’s Nose

Dolphin’s Nose is a flat rock projecting over a breathtaking chasm 6,600 meters (21,700 ft) deep. It is located at a distance of 8 kilometers from the bus stand. It is an undisturbed area 1 kilometer down a very steep rocky trail beginning soon after Pambar Bridge. The way to go to Dolphin’s Nose was muddy and wet. You have to trek the route, make sure you have comfortable walking shoes. Check out this video:

It is because of the shape of the rock (which looks like a Dolphin’s nose), the place got the name:

Just near the Bear Shola Falls lies the Lion Cave. The cave is a natural formation in the middle of the forest with entrance surrounded by trees. The way to go to Lion Cave is by trekking:

Just near the Pambar falls (Liril Falls) lies the Bear Shola falls. The way to falls is a rugged hill path. It was raining that time so the place was all wet and muddy. Once the bears used to come here for drinking water, hence the name Bear Shola falls.

Then, we went to see the Pambar falls. This falls is also called as Liril Falls after the famous Liril soap advertisement filming in 1985. It can be reached by a steep precipitous path behind Pambar house. Racing down Pambar ravine is zig -zag living stream that cascades over a series of rock formation.

Trip to Kodaikanal: Chapter 12: La Saleth Church (Shrine)

There was a board near the church which read: Kodaikanal, the princess of mountains invites tourists from all over the world every day. People from all walks of life flock to this summer resort to cherish her natural beauty and serenity. Hills is considered as the abode of god. Kodaikanal, the hill country is no exception to this and she too hosts our Lady of La Saleth Shrine possessing the traditional heritage of 150 years and it is one of the two shrines dedicated to our Lady of La Saleth in the whole world, one in France and the other in Kodaikanal. The shrine is situated in the mountain which is 7000 feet above the sea level. It is near the famous Coaker’s Wlak which gives the aerial view of the mountains all around and the TV tower. The foundation stone for this shrine was laid by a French Jesuit missionary Louis St. Cyr in the year 1863 and blessed open in the year 1866 on the Easter Sunday. This shrine stands as a manifestation of the Tamil French architectural excellence. The attractive and the graceful holy status of our Lady of La Saleth above the altar as well as the holy statue of St. Joseph were gifted by the bishop of Chernobyl Diocese in France. The noteworthy and the decorative paintings on the glasses inside the church were drawn by a noble French lady Coile.

The shrine is an asylum for the poor, the weary, and the dejected souls. Our Lady of La Saleth is a universal mother giving solace and comfort to all the devotees irrespective of religions. It is a house of blessings that serve as a remedy to all the ills of human beings. All the tourists who come over to Kodaikanal never fail to pay a visit to her and be blessed. May our Lady of La Saleth shower her choicest blessings upon you and your family.
