Bhilai to Siyadevi on bike: Chapter 6: Gangrel Dam

It was just 2 o’clock and we already saw Siyadevi. My brother said that Dhamtari is nearby and there’s another dam over there. So, we thought of going to Dhamtari. We wet to Balod and then took a turn towards Dhamtari. Dhamtari is 44 km. from Balod. After an hour drive we reached Dhamtari. We took a turn to go to Gangrel dam. Gangrel Dam is located 15 km. south of Dhamtari. It is built across the Mahanadi River. The dam and its surrounding features in the district’s tourism map. Gangrel Hydel Power Project is also located here. One can also go for a boat ride. The dam was a huge one. The view of Mahanadi river from the dam was amazing. Here are the photos:

Thank you for sharing the images. I have a special attachment to this dam. My father was one of the engineers who were here during the construction. This was in mid 70s to early 80s. We lived in Rudri, a small village about 8 km from Gangrel. There was a Rudri barrage which was later modified. There is also a Murum Silli dam which is very old and one of its kind because it uses syphons in its gates.
