While dancing, “pillangovi” (flute) and “Damaruga” (rattle drum) are being used for melody and tempo: Mailaralinga, Maidalarama and similar long narrative poems get tunefully recited to the accompaniment of these instruments.

  • Left: Ravana: Ten headed, twenty armed lord of Lanka, Ravana, protagonist among Rakshasas. In the titanic combat between Rama and Ravana (who had abducted Sita) the demon king Ravan gets slain.
