Bangalore to Ramohalli on bike: Part 2: Mukti Naga Temple and Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Alada Mara), Ramohalli

After that I continued my journey and took a right turn for Ramohalli. After 4 km I saw a board of Mukti Naga Temple. I took another right turn to reach there. Inside the temple there was a huge statue of Lord Naga. It is believed to be the world’s largest monolithic statue of Lord Naga, about 16 feet tall and 36 tons of weight. The temple is run by Shri Subrahmanya Seva Trust.

After the darshan, I went to see the Big Banyan tree. On the way I found many rose nurseries. The Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Alada Mara in Kannada) is a giant Banyan tree located in the village of Ramohalli. This single tree covers 3 acres (12,000 m2) and is one of the largest of its kind. It is the fourth largest Banyan tree in India. It is said to be at least 400 years old. A few years back, the main root of the tree succumbed to natural disease, and thus the tree looks like many different trees now. This is the same tree which was in the song “ye dosti, hum nahi todenge…” from Sholay. The tree is also the largest in Karnataka. There is a Shiva temple in the compound known as Sri Muneshwara devalaya.
