Just outside the museum I found a board with the title: Government museum, Bangalore
Government museum at Bangalore established during 1865 is one of the oldest museums in India. Dr. Edward Green Belfour was the first officer incharge of the museum. The museum which started functioning in the rented building at Museum road got shifted to this new building at Sydney road (now called Kasturba road) specifically designed for this purpose during 1877.
The museum has a rich collection of archaeological objects, stone sculptures, bronzes, traditional paintings, arms and armor, wood carvings, musical instruments, coins, etc. The museum is open on all days except Mondays, second Saturdays, and other notified Government holidays between 10 am to 5 pm.
