Kaveri Fishing Camp, Bheemeshwari is about 100 kms from Bangalore. Here you can enjoy a lot of activities like camping, angling (sport fishing), river rafting, trekking, and coracle rides. Bheemeshwari is the home for the largest tropical sporting fish known as Mahseer. It is really a great adventure to catch one of them as they weigh up to 54 kg (118 lb). Other wildlife near the camp includes leopard, elephants, wild pigs, sambar, spotted deers, the highly endangered grizzled giant squirrel, Malabar giant squirrel, jackals, marsh crocodile, turtles (Leith’s Soft Shelled Turtle, an endemic species is found in these waters), chameleon, python, cobra, russell’s viper and banded krait. There are about 200 types of birds spotted around the camp. Some common ones are grey-headed fishing eagle, spot billed duck, small pied kingfisher, black-bellied river tern, osprey, honey buzzard, tawny eagle, and pied crested cuckoo. The best time to visit the camp is from August to February. You can book a day visit package for Rs. 1200 which includes lunch, dinner and some activities.
