Nrityagram (dance village) is India’s first modern Gurukul. Gurukul is an age old traditional Indian residential school where students and teachers reside in the same place during the course. The village lies close by Hesaraghatta Lake, about 30 km away from Bangalore. Nrityagram was started in the form of a dance village by Odissi dancer Protima Gauri in 1990. Nrityagram provides training in the following Indian classical dance forms: Odissi, Mohiniattam, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Manipuri.
