- Ball point pen: John Loud of America invented the first ball point type pen in 1888. However, a more workable version was patented in 1938 by two Hungarian brothers Laszlo Biro and Georg Biro. This type of pen owes its name to the tiny steel ball housed in the tip. The ball rotates while writing and draws viscous in k on the paper continuously. The ink is drawn on the ball by capillary action.
- Weighing machines: The principle of the balance a freely suspended beam which is balanced by known and unknown weights has been known from primitive times up to the present day and is still used for weighing machines. Sensitivity and accuracy of weighing machines depends on the design of the mechanisms. In present day weighing machines simple rope pivots have been by and large replaced by metal knife edge pivots. Most modern weighing machines have electronic circuits for getting direct digital indication of weight.
