Trip to Kanyakumari: Chapter 16: Guganathaswamy Temple

Then, I took an auto and went to the Guganathaswamy Temple. This is a 1000 year old temple and is said to have been built by the King Raja Raja Chola. The architectural style of the Cholas is quiet apparent in this temple. It is located near Railway Station. There are 16 inscriptions found in this temple that date back to the years 1038 A.D., 1044 A.D., 1045 .A.D. Visiting hours are from 06.00 to 11.15 A.M and 05.00 P.M to 08.45 P.M. Here are the photos of the temple:

Then, I went back to the lodge and got ready. We took an auto and reached the railway station. We took the train Cape Howrah Express having the train number 2666. Our plan was to reach Chennai Egmore at 10:30 pm and then catch another train at 11:30 pm for Bangalore. We reached Chennai Egmore at 11:15 pm and guess what the train was one hour and fifteen minutes late. We took an auto and rushed to the Chennai Central railway station which is quite nearby to the Chennai Egmore railway station. The time was 11.27 pm, we ran to the platform and the train was already left. Even we saw the train moving but it was too far to run. I checked the time it was 11:32 pm. Wow! can you believe that, it was just a 2 minutes delay and the train was gone. It was a hard lesson to learn. I should have booked the second ticket by giving a gap of atleast three hours. I checked the inquiry and they said the next train Brindavan Express is at 7:15 am. I have some friends in Chennai but its not a good idea to call them at that hour and say that I am stuck in the railway station. So we decided to wait till the morning. I sat on the waiting hall chair and was having naps at regular intervals. I got up at 5 am and canceled the ticket. Then, I took another ticket for Brindavan Express. At 7: 15 we checked the train and there was no space even to stand. You can guess the condition of general compartment. Then, we decided to go by a bus. We went to a private bus service and they said that there are no tickets available for the private buses. But a person over there suggested that we should go to CMBT bus stop and from there we could get a bus to Bangalore. We took an auto and reached CMBT bus stop. After an hours wait finally we got a bus for Bangalore. The fair was a decent one just Rs. 250 per head. At 6 pm we reached Bangalore and a 5 day trip to Kanyakumari was over.
