Bangalore to Shravanabelagola on bike: Chapter 3: Chandragiri: Part 3: Marasimha’s Manasthambha or Kuge Brahmadeva Pillar

- Marasimha’s Manasthambha (Kuge Brahmadeva Pillar): Entering the southern gateway there is a Manasthambha, popularly called Kuge Brahmadeva Pillar. It is a fine specimen of Ganga workmanship and one of the most elegant of the free standing pillars. Erected in honor of Ganga king, Marasimha, who died observing the rite of Aradhana at Bankapur (Dharwad district) in circa 974 AD. This is considered both a commemorative column as well as a Manasthambha. The column is 30 feet high and has Sarvahna Yaksha at the top. The 113 line inscription engraved on the pedestal begins on the southern face and ends on the eastern face. It gives a glowing account of the king, his heroic life and of his pious end.
